Passers-by recorded video instead of helping the victim

In a shocking video doing rounds on social media, a 29-year-old man was allegedly run over thrice by a van driven by his friends following a drunken brawl over a money dispute in north-west Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar.

In the video, taken by passers-by, the grievously injured Arvind, was seen begging for help but no one came forward to help him.

“People recorded the video instead of helping him. They didn’t touch him saying it was a police case. They waited for the police to come and take my brother to the hospital. My brother was begging the people, but they didn’t help him,” Mr. Arvind’s brother, Madan alleged.

It was only when the police arrived at the spot that the victim was rushed to the hospital.

He suffered a multiple fractures and other injuries, but was able to narrate the incident to the police.

Money dispute

The crime happened near Nirankari Park in Mukherjee Nagar around 10 p.m. on Sunday after Arvind visited the spot after being called by his four friends.

“We were having a drink when we got involved in a quarrel over money. I was hit on my head with a beer bottle, causing me to collapse,” alleged Mr. Arvind.

One of the assailants then held him by his hands while another one ran his van over him thrice. “When some people arrived at the spot, the attackers escaped,” Mr. Arvind alleged.

Senior police officers remained unavailable for a comment.

Passers-by also recorded his statement on their mobile.

In the recording, the victim is narrating the brutality which he was being subjected to.

The police said that the doctors told that the injured man had suffered multiple fractures and had been hospitalised in the ICU of Sushruta Trauma Centre in Civil Lines.

A case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) has been lodged and police are looking into the matter. Two accused have been arrested, said a senior police official.
