Pune: The civic body has handed over two plots of
land in Kothurd and Swargate to the
MahaMetro Rail Corporation for setting up a Metro
depot and a
multi-modal hub.
Recently, a joint meeting was held between Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and MahaMetro officials in the presence of municipal commissioner Kunal Kumar. It was decided at the meeting to speed up the process of handing over of land. MahaMetro officials said the process was crucial to accelerate the Metro depot and multi-modal work.
The Kothrud depot land will be utilized for the Metro (Vanaz) depot. A proposal was under consideration to utilize this plot for Shivsrushti project and the issue was pending for long with the PMC and the state government. Last month, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting involving all stakeholders and announced to hand over the plot for the depot.
MahaMetro has initiated steps to prepare a detailed design of the Vanaz depot. The civil work would begin once the designs and the sketches are finalized. A consultant firm has been appointed to design the depot. MahaMetro expects finalization of the designs in the next six months.
The MahaMetro officials said that they have also started working on the design of the multi-modal hub on a 7-acre plot at Swargate. The hub will have an integration of Metro, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd services. The commuters will be able to switch services with escalators, walkways and lifts. Swargate is the terminal station on the Pimpri-Shivajinagar-Swargate corridor. The Range Hills-Shivajinagar-Swargate section will be underground.
