James Emmett Jennings, Jr., 82, of Madison Heights, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of 50 years to Fay Coiner Jennings. Born on November 23, 1935, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late James Emmett Jennings, Sr. and the late Treva Mae Treadway Jennings. James was a retired postmaster for the United States Postal Service and a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and usher. James served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. During his military service, James served on the USS Bennington in the security department. James was a member of the Gideon's International since the early 1990's. He was an avid fisherman, where he fished whenever he had the opportunity. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his stepmother, Grace Bell Jennings. In addition to his wife, James is survived by his sons, Jeff C. Jennings (Samantha) of Evington and Chris Jennings (Kristi) of Appomattox; one brother, George Edward Jennings of Richmond; five grandchildren, Casey Elizabeth Jennings, Joshua Warren Jennings, Tara Marie Jennings, Sean Asher Jennings, and Jackson Lee Jennings; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 12 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2018, at Thomas Road Baptist Church-Pate Chapel with the Rev. David Heerspink officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, where Military Honors will be presented by the United States Marine Corps. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m., Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
