Painesville Municipal Electric Division recognized for reliable service

City of Painesville

The Painesville Municipal Electric Division recently received national recognition for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2017, American Municipal Power Inc. announced.

“Painesville has demonstrated its commitment to reliable electric service,” said Marc Gerken, AMP president and CEO. “This recognition signifies Painesville Municipal Electric Division’s dedication to its customers.”

The city received a Certificate of Excellence in Reliability from the American Public Power Association. The APPA helps public power systems track outage and restoration data through the eReliability Tracker service and then compares the data to national statistics tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration for all types of electric utilities, according to the news release.

AMP member certificate recipients were announced on March 14 during the annual AMP Technical Services Conference in Columbus.

“I am incredibly proud of our crews for providing and maintaining a reliable system to our customers,” said City Manager Monica Irelan. “It is because of their hard work that we received this recognition. While we will take this moment to celebrate this accomplishment, we strive to continue to improve our reliability and commitment to our customers every day.”

The Painesville Electric Division’s mission is to provide adequate, reliable, and economical power to our customers in an efficient and professional manner.

City leaders have been diligently working to ensure that customer’s receive the best service.

In fact, Council President Paul Hach recently spoke to congressional representatives about public power issues that impact the city.

Hach, who serves as an at-large member on the American Public Power Association’s Policy Makers Council, attended the group’s annual legislative rally in Washington, D.C., to talk to Congress about the direct impact federal action has on the local level.

Another way the city plans to improve service to customers, financial benefits to the city and utility operations is through Advanced Metering Infrastructure. The old analog meters used to record electrical usage will be replaced with a new digital system that will enhance customer service and improve power quality and reliability.
