Arun Singh, a school student of the city, is exhibiting his record collection of Tintin comics in 114 languages. The three-day exhibition will be put up at DB City Mall.
Arun who studies in Class XII of Delhi Public School will put up the exhibition on Friday. The exhibition will be on view till Sunday.One of the most popular Comic characters, Tintin was created by Belgian artist Georges Prosper Remi, more commonly known as Herge. Tintin first appeared in the story Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, in the pages of Belgian newspaper Le Petit Vingtième on 10 January 1929.
Achieving worldwide recognition for his adventurous exploits, Tintin went on to appear in 24 stories. This popular character travelled to over 52 countries during his adventures. India features in two of his stories. He travelled to Bombay (now Mumbai) in the 1932 story Cigars of the Pharaoh. In the 1959 story, Tintin in Tibet he travels to Delhi.
Amongst Indian languages Tintin was first published in Bengali in 1975 appearing in pages of Magazine Anandamela . The translation was done by NirendranathChakraborty. In 2010 it was translated in Hindi by Punit Gupta.
Arun first began collecting Tintin Comics when he was in Class VIII. His collection now includes rare editions like Tintin in Tilburgs language of which only 600 copies were printed and Tintin in Wallon d’ Ottignies language of which only 500 copies were printed.
Arun has also been collecting Tintin memorabilia including figurines, models, stamps, magazines and other ephemera. He has done Tintin trails in Brussles, Paris, Milan, Blois and Leh, visiting locations and monuments that Herge actually drew in the Tintin Comics.
