Terming the expulsion of two Congress legislators as an undemocratic and autocratic decision by the State government, CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy questioned why the government was not accepting the resignations of the defected legislators and subsequently conduct byelections.
Speaking to the press here on Thursday, he alleged that Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary was suppressing the Opposition at the behest of the TRS and suggested he should be unbiased and independent.
If the government had expelled the Congress legislators for unruly behaviour in the Assembly, then the government should also accept the resignations of all the defectors and conduct byelections to prove its sincerity, he said.
He also found fault with TRS for forcing the lone CPI MLA Ravindra Naik into their party-fold without needing to resign from the post.
Hailing the victory of opposition parties in the by-elections to three MP posts in Uttar Pradesh, he said that the BJP’s downfall had begun.
The CPI leader added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would backtrack on his decision to go for early elections.
CPI district president K. Ramgopal Reddy, district leaders K. Shoba Rani and others were also present.
