DAYTONA BEACH — An employee of Sunglass Hut falsely claimed he was mugged while making a nightly deposit, causing a police K-9 unit to be dispatched as well as the deployment of another 10 or more units, authorities said.
Connor Lobianc, 21, was charged Thursday with misuse of 9-1-1 and filing a false police report, both misdemeanors. He was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail after posting $1,000 bail.
Shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to Regions Bank, 100 Corsair Drive, following a call about an armed robbery, according to an arrest affidavit. Lobianc told authorities he was robbed in the parking lot by a black male with a goatee, who left the area on foot heading toward West International Speedway Boulevard, police said.
Lobianc was making a deposit of $715 on behalf of Sunglass Hut, the affidavit stated.
The 10 police units that were dispatched set up a perimeter and Lobianc was questioned, but his story kept changing, police said.
Eventually, Lobianc confessed he had the money in his truck and admitted he made the false report because he was angry at his employer, according to the affidavit.
