Tourists from US, Singapore frequently use Airbnb in South Korea

Airbnb launches trips to take travelingDomestic Korean tourists took out the largest chunk of Airbnb users in Korea in 2017 followed by travellers from Singapore and the United States.

 

As per Airbnb on Wednesday more than 1.8 million tourists leveraged the usage of nearly 37,000 Airbnb listings last year. Of this figure just 66% were Korean tourists who were travelling regionally.

 

As for the foreign visitors those from the US and Singapore were the most comfortable utilizing the home-sharing service, respectively taking out 18% and 13% of the regional demand for Airbnb in 2017.

 

Over 868,000 US tourists had visited Korea last year of which a round up of 113,700 had used Airbnb for their stay.

 

As for Singaporeans about 81,700 out of 216,170 had chosen the option of Airbnb. This implies that 1 in 8 tourists from the US and about 2 in 5 from Singapore staying at Airbnb listings here.

Lee Sang-Hyun who is the head of public policy at Airbnb in Korea mentioned in a press release that Airbnb might be the key to the diversification of tourism in Korea by dispersing tourists from traditional tourist locales and close to authentic local spots.

 

During the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics Games that was held last month in Gangwon Province over 15,000 people opted for Airbnb while booking accommodation.
