TIRUNELVELI
A total of 91,823 students, including 45,429 boys and 46,394 girls, from Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts appeared for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate public examination that commenced on Friday.
A total of 43,983 students, including 21,832 boys and 22,151 girls, from 482 schools appeared for the examination at 164 centres across Tirunelveli district on Friday. Of them, 108 are differently-abled students.
Though arrangements had been made in the Palayamkottai Central Prison for 36 prisoners to write the exam, only 26 inmates – 19 from Palayamkottai Central Prison and 7 from Madurai Central Prison – appeared for the exam.
After inspecting the examination centre at Sarah Tucker Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Collector Sandeep Nanduri visited the examination centre at Palayamkottai Central Prison along with Chief Educational Officer Muruganantham.
Eight flying squads were moving around to check malpractices.
Cheranmahadevi educational district: Boys – 7,087; girls – 7,141; total – 14,228.
Tenkasi educational district: Boys – 7,113; girls – 7,326; total – 14,439.
Tirunelveli educational district: Boys – 7,632; girls – 7,684; total – 15,316.
In Thoothukudi district, 23,718 students of 296 schools including 11,546 boys and 12,172 girls wrote the examination in 95 centres. Of this, 63 candidates are differently-abled.
Collector N. Venkatesh visited the examination centre at Holy Cross Girls’ Higher Secondary School along with Chief Educational Officer T. Manoharan.
Thoothukudi educational district: Boys – 7,135; girls – 7,769; total – 14,904.
Kovilpatti educational district: Boys – 4,411; girls – 4,403; total – 8,814.
In Kanniyakumari district, 24,122 students including 12,051 boys and 12,071 girls of 426 schools appeared for the examination in 111 centres. Of this, 129 are physically-challenged students.
Collector Prashant M. Wadnere inspected the examination centre at Government Higher Secondary School in Vallankumaravilai.
