Seniors dominated The News Leader's All-City/County girls basketball teams this year, capturing six of the 10 spots.

But that doesn't mean youth wasn't represented. A pair of juniors and a pair of freshmen also landed on the first two teams, chosen by members of The News Leader's sports staff.

Coach of the Year: Buffalo Gap's Morgan pulls off best coaching job

Following its run to the Class 2 state championship game, Buffalo Gap placed three players — Leah Calhoun, Camille Ashby, and Amaya Lucas — on the first two teams. While Calhoun and Ashby both finished up their high school basketball careers, Lucas is just a freshman and has a bright future.

Wilson Memorial was also well-represented on both teams with three players, including seniors Sarah Sondrol and Cheridan Hatfield, garnering honors. Both Hornet seniors were named to the first team. Wilson freshman Korinne Baska was named to the second team.

Stuarts Draft's Monique Ayres and Riverheads' Sara Moore round out the first team. Lee High's Lexi Hall and Fort Defiance's Faith Farley were named to the second team.

Six of the seven schools in the Staunton/Waynesboro/Augusta County area placed players on either the first or second teams in one of the more competitive years in recent memory for postseason honors.
