Saffron cloth on busts creates flutter

more-in

The police are on the lookout for miscreants who tied a saffron colour cloth to the busts of late leaders Periyar, Anna and MGR, all situated at the same spot on the Salem road, on Thursday. The miscreant had also garlanded the statues. Local people who spotted the saffron cloth, alerted the police.

They rushed to the spot and removed the cloth. Police pickets were posted near the statue. When contacted, police sources said that according to local shopowners, an aged person, said to be an ardent fan of late MGR, used to wash the statues and tie a cloth of his choice.

He must have washed the busts and tied the saffron cloth. The police sources said that since there was no damage to the busts, no case was registered in this connection.
