With the possibility of a number of outfits sending activists to rally around the Vidhan Sabha at Bharadisain to press for the official announcement of making Gairsain the permanent capital of the State during the upcoming Budget Session, State police are now engaged in drafting plans.
They are planning on how to take on the string of stirs without providing provocation to the agitators. To gauge the mood of the agitators, police brass has asked the Intelligence department to strengthen network and to ascertain the possible number of people who would throng Gairsain to stage stir outside the Assembly during the Budget Session starting March 20.
State additional director general of police (law and order) Ashok Kumar said in apprehension of law and order problem cropping up during the session, they are sprucing up security in and around the Assembly.
Vidhan sabha area has been divided into four zones and the police officers of the rank of additional SPs would head each zone. Four companies of PAC jawans have been deputed along with two companies of women PAC.
Besides, barricades would be installed at many places around Gairsain to stop groups intent on getting near the Assembly premises, Kumar said, adding additional forces would be deployed at the sensitive places and police patrolling and vehicle checking drives are being further intensified.
He added the district police chiefs have been directed to draft traffic plans in their respective districts as several associations have planned to reach Gairsain to demonstrate.
A police department insider said police are on the defensive as they are to deal with agitations to be staged around the highly emotive issue.
“We must maintain law and order, but we cannot afford to exacerbate things through any kind of provocative acts. We must exercise extreme self-restraint even in the face of odds,” he added.
