Saskatoon police recover 2 stolen trucks, charge 4

Several people are facing charges after Saskatoon police recovered two stolen trucks and arrested another person in a sting operation.

Police said a stolen Chevrolet Colorado was spotted late Wednesday evening in the area of 33rd Street West and Avenue H North.

Officers attempted to stop the truck but the driver refused to pull over and was last seen driving erratically westbound on 33rd Street.

The air support unit (ASU) located the truck parked behind an apartment building in the 10-block of Maxwell Crescent where officers arrested a man.

The 22-year-old man is facing a number of charges including dangerous driving and evading police.

Then early Thursday morning, an officer spotted a Chevrolet Silverado thought to have been stolen.

Police said the driver fled in an erratic manner at a high-rate of speed.

ASU started tracking the vehicle and ground officers deployed tire deflation devices at 33rd Street and Ontario Avenue.

The driver eventually stopped in the 1200-block of 7th Avenue North and five people fled.

Three were tracked by ASU and a police dog to a home in the 800-block of Osborne Street and taken into custody.

They are facing possession of stolen property charges.

Police continue to search for two other suspects.

A man was also arrested last week as part of the Saskatoon police theft reduction vehicle program.

The program equips vehicles from SGI Salvage with cameras and alarms, which are then parked in areas where high vehicle theft rates are reported.

A silent alarm then triggers a video feed to police and officers are dispatched to the scene.

A 19-year-old man was caught through the program early in the morning of March 9.

Police said there have been 27 arrests since the program started in 2016.
