The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has been awarded the playoff matches (Eliminator and Qualifier-2) of the IPL-11.
The two matches will be played at the MCA International Stadium, Gahunje, on May 23 and 25.
The venue though will have to get the final clearance from IMG.
The MCA president Abhay Apte had requested the IPL Governing Council to allot the playoff matches to Pune because it is an ICC-accredited venue and is at close proximity to Mumbai which will host the final.
The IPL GC, which met at the Cricket Centre here on Friday without Jyotiraditya Scindia and Mohinder Pandove, also nominated Lucknow and Rajkot as standby venues. Another member said the practice has been to play the IPL at ICC-accredited venues and Lucknow is not an international venue.
The IMG will visit Lucknow and Rajkot to carry out inspection. The legal opinion obtained from A.P. Shah, former chairman of the Law Commission of India, on issues related to the ownership of Chennai Super Kings, is apparently in favour of the CSK franchise.
Shammi issue
The GC has decided to wait for the report from the BCCI anti-corruption unit chief Neeraj Kumar before it decides on seamer Mohammad Shami’s participation for Delhi Daredevils.
