more-in

Bishops of the beleaguered Syro-Malabar Church has given a call to observe a day of fasting and prayer on March 23, Friday, to achieve unity amid the controversy over a series of property deals in the Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese in which church functionaries, including Major Archbishop George Alencherry, are under police investigation.

The call was given by the permanent synod of the Church at its meeting held on Wednesday, said a press release here. The synod said that all parishes and religious communities should hold at least an hour of adoration of the Holy Eucharist on the day. The synod said in a statement that it was, in the meanwhile, intensifying efforts to solve the problems that had arisen out of the land deals.
