A father-son duo, who were in possession of red sanders near Gummidipoondi, were arrested on Wednesday. Police have seized 25 logs, weighing over two tonnes, from them.
Chennai: Arambakkam police received specific inputs that red sanders wood, sale and possession of which is not permitted, was hidden in the house of Ranganathan in Periyanatham village. Following this, a team led by the inspector raided the house.
After the red sanders were seized, police arrested Ranganathan (50) and his son Thangarasu (23) and took them for interrogation. It was found out that the duo smuggled the red sanders from Andhra Pradesh in small quantities and hid it in their house to sell at an opportune moment.
Both the wood and the accused were handed over to the Forest department officers for further investigation.
