It is verdict against Modi, Yogi: Akhilesh

Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has termed the win of the party candidates in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha bypolls as “mandate of the people against the BJP Government at the Centre and in UP”.

“The two Lok Sabha seats belonged to the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister of the State and if there is so much anger among the people of these two constituencies, imagine what the results would be if these were any other election. Public has given a fitting reply to the BJP. UP by-election results send a strong political message as lakhs of people have voted for us. There is immense mistrust among the people and these results are an indication of that,” said Akhilesh here on Wednesday.

“People have given their mandate and verdict against the BJP Governments at the Centre as well as in UP as both the Governments have ditched the people and did not fulfilled any of the promises made by the BJP in 2014 Lok Sabha and 2017 State Assembly elections,” he said while interacting with the media.

The SP chief also drove from Vikramaditya Marg to Mall Avenue in downtown Lucknow to personally thank BSP chief Mayawati, who was thronged by thousands of BSP and SP supporters at her residence.

The SP president was very critical on the BJP leaders particularly Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his derogatory remarks on the BSP-SP pre-poll tie-up for the by-election to two Lok Sabha seats. “The Chief Minister is repeatedly using foul language against the SP and the BSP. He called us as ‘Aurangzeb’ and later described us as ‘saap aur chachundar’ and ‘chor chor mausera bhai’. But people have given them a befitting reply,” he said.

He thanked all the political parties, who had supported the SP candidates particularly the BSP, Left parties and Rashtriya Lok Dal besides the voters of Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha constituencies for supporting the party’s candidates in the bypolls.

“It is the win of the social justice and now it seems that the dream of the people to get a Government of social justice would be fulfilled,” he claimed. Alleging that the BJP had always tried to incite communal and caste clash for their own narrow political ends, he said that now it seems that the saffron party would return to development agenda as we did during the five year rule of the Samajwadi party  but the people rejected us in 2017 Assembly elections.

“The fake ideology of nationalism and an effort to create division in the society will not be tolerated by the people any longer. This bypolls have taught the BJP a lesson,” he added.
