Miscreants pose as BMRCL officials, dupe man of Rs 1L

A private school owner was cheated of Rs 1 lakh by miscreants who claimed to be BMRCL's land acquisition officers.

The suspects called Vinay Kumar, owner of Janan Sweekar Public School in Talaghattapura, on Thursday and told him that they are BMRCL officers.

The suspects said they have decided to acquire his school land for extending the Metro line and asked him to visit the BMRCL's Jayanagar office and collect a cheque for Rs 16 lakh as compensation. They warned him of consequences if he fails to collect the cheque.

Kumar then reached the Metro office in Jayanagar and called the suspects, who asked him to come to VI block. The suspects asked Kumar to give them Rs 1 lakh to sanction the remaining amount. Kumar deposited the amount through a DD.

Kumar then waited for two days and visited the Metro office, only to realise that he was cheated. A case has been registered under IPC Section 420.
