Naughty By Nature will perform in Lynchburg this summer as part of the Academy Center of the Arts’ Riverfront Park Concert Series, according to an announcement this morning.

The Grammy-winning hip-hop trio — which had its first hit, “O.P.P.,” in 1991 and went on to make history as the first act to win Best Rap Album in 1996, the first year the award was given — will perform at Riverfront Park on Saturday, June 9.

In a news release, the Academy credited the group, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2016, with “creating the hits and party anthems that have become the soundtrack to our lives,” as their music “smashed through mainstream barriers.”

They’ll be joined by MC/entertainer Big Daddy Kane, known for songs like “Smooth Operator,” “Ain't No Half Steppin,’” “Warm It Up” and the Teddy Riley-produced classic "I Get The Job Done,” according to the release.

The concert series will kick off Saturday, April 21 with Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, and the Secret Sisters, with opening act Leah Blevins.

The concert series continues throughout the summer, with performances in July and August. The Academy will be announcing the rest of the series’ headliners over the next month.

General admission tickets to the concerts are $11, with more expensive VIP tickets also offered. Visit www.academycenter.org for more information.
