BBC pundit makes huge European claim about Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Man City

CHARLIE ADAM believes there is only one shock result from the Premier League sides in the Champions League last-16 stage.

All five English teams advanced from their respective groups with strong hope they would all progress to the quarter-final stage.

But only Liverpool and Manchester City will be in the hat for tomorrow’s draw having beaten Porto and Basel respectively.

Chelsea and Tottenham arguably had the toughest tests against Barcelona and Juventus and they were unable to get the job done.

Antonio Conte’s side earned a respectable 1-1 draw at home to Barcelona in the first leg but were undone by Barcelona last night with Lionel Messi scoring twice either side of Ousmane Dembele’s first goal for the club.

Tottenham were in a commanding position in their second leg against Juventus after Heung-min Son put them ahead before the break.

But Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala scored in quick succession to turn the tie on its head and knock Mauricio Pochettino’s side out.

Manchester United were far from their best as they were stunned by Sevilla at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

And Stoke midfielder Adam believes that was the only shock result from the Premier League contingent.

“It's only Man United going out that is a surprise,” Adam said on BBC Radio Five Live.

“Did you expect Juventus to beat Tottenham, Yes.

“Did you expect Barcelona to win here tonight. Did you expect Man City and Liverpool to win, yes.”
