JMC supends one, removes 2 officials over graft plaint

JAIPUR: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Wednesday suspended one assistant town planner and put two zone commissioners on awaited posting orders (APO) for allegedly issuing lease deeds to construct commercial establishments on facility areas in city’s different localities.
The JMC CEO took action against the officials after complaints reached UDH minister Srichand Kriplani. There were allegations that illegal lease deeds of public facility areas were issued to private persons during the “Mukhya Mantri Jan Kalyan” camps.

Earlier in the day, the Congress councilors and party workers held demonstrations in the city’s 91 municipal wards and submitted complaints to all police stations over the alleged corruption in JMC. At some police stations like Bani Park and Jawahar Circle, the Congressmen had heated arguments with police officials who refused to register FIRs. The protesters staged dharna and shouted slogans and accused the state government of shielding the corrupt. Senior police officers had to intervene to pacify the agitated protestors that included residents of localities where the facility areas have been allegedly sold out to influential people.

Jaipur police commissioner Sanjay Agarwal said complaints have been received at the police stations. “We will look into the matter,” Agarwal told TOI.

Former legislator and Congress spokesperson Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, who led the protests, demanded investigations by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) under monitoring by the high court. “It is a big scam. The state government and the JMC are trying to brush it under the carpet. If action is not taken against those who issued illegal lease deeds, we will gehrao the chief minister’s residence in Civil Lines,” Khachariyawas said, while talking to reporters during the protest at Shastri Nagar police station.

The Congress spokesperson said instead of initiating investigations on its own and booking the corrupt officials, the JMC and the government have been trying to hush up the matter that has been making news headlines for several days now. Khachariyawas alleged that there was corruption in the Smart City project as well as Swachhta survey programme too. “Government’s claims about spending Rs 1000-cr in Smart City project are baseless. The company conducting Swachhata survey is involved in corruption,” Khachariyawas alleged.
