Hail likely to lash hills

The Meteorological centre has released  a warning of hail/squall at isolated places in  the hills of Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Pauri, Pithoragarh and Nainital districts during the next 24 hours starting from Wednesday/Thursday night.

The Met official has attributed this to western disturbances and the maximum temperature is expected to dip by a few degrees in Dehradun on Thursday as a result.

 Dehradun was warm on Wednesday as the maximum temperature soared 33.7 degree Celsius, seven notches above the normal, while the minimum settled at 14.3 degree Celsius, two notches above the normal.

The highest maximum temperature of the state 34.9°C was recorded at Jaspur in Udham Singh Nagar district while the lowest minimum temperature 5.4°C was recorded at Matela in Almora district.

Uttarakhand meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said on Wednesday that another spell of western disturbances now approaching the State would trigger the wet spell in the higher reaches of Chamoli and some other districts for a couple of days from March 20 for the next two days.

As per the weather report sent by the Met department, in Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 32.8 degree Celsius and 10.2 degree Celsius, respectively. In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 22.8 degree Celsius and 7.5 degree Celsius.

In New Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 21.4 degree Celsius and 11.2 degree Celsius respectively.

Singh said that the weather forecast for Uttarakhand on Thursday is very light to light rain/thunder showers at a few places especially in hills of the state.

The weather forecast for Dehradun for Thursday is partly to generally cloudy sky.  Rain/thunder shower is likely to occur accompanied with squall/hail in some areas.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 28 degree Celsius and 15 degree Celsius respectively in the city on the day, he said, adding very light to light rain/thunder showers is likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts especially in higher reaches while the climate would remain  dry in the rest  of Uttarakhand on March 16.
