Dorothy F. Thornton On March 8, 2018, Dorothy F. Thornton was called from labor to reward to begin her new life. Dorothy was born May 22, 1915 in Spout Spring, Va. to the late Sam and Ola "Ora" Hancock. She was married to the late Jasper Thornton. She attended Appomattox Public School and joined the Promise Land Baptist Church at an early age. Dorothy was the mother of the church. Caring for people was her passion. She was a care giver for her Mother, Daughter, Mother and Father-in-law, and her Brother-in-law. She baby sat her grandkids. She shared a kind and giving nature and was a mother to everyone. She was a member of the Widows and ladies Club. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Eloise (Stewart) Robinson; grandson, Stewart E. Robinson; brothers, James and Madison Fleshman; a sister, Ella Caldwell; and Eldridge Bernard Trapp whom she raised. She leaves to cherish her memories two devoted sons, Thomas (Theresa) Thornton, of Appomattox, Va. and Samuel (Charlene) Thornton of Concord, Va.; a step daughter, Laura Fleshman of California; a sister-in-law, Marion Fleshman, of Baltimore, Md.; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, step grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Promise Land Baptist Church, Appomattox with the Rev. Phillip Brown, officiating. The interment will be in the church cemetery.
