Eight people booked in fraud case in Thane

Thane: As many as six office bearers of a co-operative housing society and two others have been booked on the alleged charges of indulging in a fraud in redevelopment of the society, police said on Thursday. 

The alleged accused, including the structural auditor and the developer, also cheated the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) for obtaining permission for the reconstruction. 

They have been booked under sections 420, 406, 467, 465, 468, 471 rw 34 of the IPC.  

As per the complaint by some of the flat owners of the society, the office bearers, with the connivance of the structural auditor and developer, cooked up the audit reports and submitted the same to the TMC to obtain permission. 

After getting permission, they carried out the work from August 2016 till date.  

Additionally, the office bearers and the redevelopment committee members acquired flats of extra carpet area, depriving the complainants of their eligible and promised area of flats. 

The alleged accused were Suryakant Rege (Chairman), Malti Subramaniam (Secretary), Deia ( Treasurer), Moreshwar Ranade (Committee Member), Nitin Lad (Manager), Milind Didore (Redevelopment Committee Member), Vinayak Chopdekar (Structural Auditor) and Ganesh Malwankar owner of Yogic Creation ( Developers), police added.
