About 270 youth from northeastern states today met Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra who invited them to visit the famous cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Reasi district.
The youth, including women, from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Mizoram are here under the North East Youth Exchange Programme organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesperson said.
The youth visited Raj Bhavan and met the Governor, who invited them to visit the Vaishno Devi shrine.
The governor, who is also the chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, directed the officials concerned to make all arrangements for their visit and to treat them as guests of the board, the spokesperson said.
Vohra said the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan could prepare documentaries of such cultural programmes and circulate them for viewing by school and college students in different states.
Highlighting the importance of youth exchange programmes, he said these are valuable for promoting understanding among people belonging to different areas of the country.
