A rare variety of fish that was caught at Madduramma lake, in Maddur taluk.

A unique and rare species of fish, was caught in the net by a fisherman, from Madduramma lake at Deshahalli in the taluk on Thursday.

Nagaraja Naik of Deshahalli was fishing on Thursday when a rare variety of fish weighing one kilogram was caught in his net.

The fish was brown in colour with yellow stripes. The mouth of the fish resembled a whale, with four sharp thorn-like structures on the top.

Speaking to DH, Nagaraj said that this was the first time he has caught a rare variety of fish.

Interestingly, the fish was alive for a while, even after it was brought out of the water, and has been released into the well belonging to a farmer.
