If you ask me whether the industry is flourishing, I would say no. Though my film Irumbu Thirai’s release has been postponed for a long time, it should be benefit my producer once it hits the screens. Every producer in tinseltown is making films only to settle the debts that has mounted from his previous films. However, the decision to go on strike from March 16, will make DSPs understand what we are fighting for. This shutdown will only have a positive impact if we see the industry as one single body.

I hope we get out of this situation soon. With a lot of film releases stalled, producers have been paying hefty interests from their pockets. Also, we need leading actors like Rajini and Kamal to intervene in this issue and help us to achieve a positive outcome.

We are nothing without producers. Only if they fund films, exhibhitors can release it, and distributors can make profits. I personally wish that the digital service providers or the exhibitors must comply with the producers, and implement things that they demand for. I understand that it’s not easy for filmmakers like us to stop all our work abruptly. But to express our solidarity, and for the welfare of the industry in the long run we should go through this phase and make others understand that the industry is nothing without producers.
