Compared to the previous year, we are closing the year 2017 with almost three times as much growth. Positive economic fundamentals, political stability in important source markets and the outstanding positioning of Germany as travel destinations as a brand among international competition form the basis of this excellent balance sheet. Especially as a vacation destination, we were able to score points with guests from all over the world.”

Travelling for personal reasons drives growth for German inbound tourism. In 2017, the number of vacation trips to Germany increased by 5%, including short breaks by 8%. The smaller segment of visiting relatives and friends is growing by 7%. The number of business trips is 1% higher than in 2016.

In vacation travel, city tourism is booming with an increase of 15%. Online bookings continue to gain 5% compared to stationary sales. In terms of transport, long-distance buses are occupying significant market share.

Europe continues to be the largest volume market for inbound tourism for Germany. The highest growth rates among international travel source regions are from the US.
