BEAVER — A Freedom couple was sentenced after making pleas in a child endangerment case.
According to an initial police report, Albert Chadwell, 35, and Katie Chadwell, 28, were charged with allowing four children to live in an unclean home without power.
Police became aware of the home condition when they responded to a May 3, 2017, crash the 1000 block of Sixth Avenue in Freedom. A car, which was being towed, came loose from a strap attached to another vehicle driven by Albert Chadwell, police said. According to the report, the car struck a fence and nearly hit a 13-year-old boy.
Police later learned that electricity in the Chadwells' home had been turned off and that four children were living in the home without power.
Police said their house was in poor condition. Two dogs were tied to a kitchen table, and there were animal urine and feces in the home, police said.
According to police, three of the children were sleeping on unclean mattresses, and a bottle full of cigarette butts was found near a baby's crib.
Albert Chadwell pleaded in July to endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment. According to court records, he was sentenced to two years on probation.
Katie Chadwell pleaded guilty March 12 to endangering the welfare of a child and was sentenced to between 10 days and 23 months, 15 days in jail, records show.
