Born November 20, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pa., Bob graduated from Ambridge High School in 1952. He served his country during the Korean War with the 23rd Armored Engineer Battalion, Company A, 3rd Armored Division, 4th Platoon and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959. He spent most of his career at IBM, retiring in 1998. He passed away on March 8, 2018. Music was always in Bob's heart. He participated in his high school marching band and toured with Stan Kenton playing tenor saxophone until the service called. He continued to keep his love of music alive, as a board member with the Traverse City Symphony Orchestra and Old Town Playhouse while singing with the Cherry Capital Chorus. He was active in his community as a Deacon, mentor at the Manufacturing Technology Academy and a member of the Rotary Club. Bob was also an avid golfer and had an insatiable sweet tooth. Preceded in death by his parents, William and Agnes (Ott) Hood, and daughter, Saundra Hood Eansor, he was the dear father to Jeanette (Jerry) Roach, Bob (Carol) Hood Jr. and Brian Hood, and dear grandfather to Robert, Michael, Jennifer, Alexandria and Kayleigh. Surviving are his loving companion, Patricia Lane Gorney, and her children, Scott (Mary) Gorney and Kristyn (Tim) Drury. He was the special grandpa to Jack, Emily, Joshua, Victoria and Henry. Also survived by his siblings, Janet (Bill) Coyler and Bill (Cindy) Hood. He was the favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews. Visitation is Friday, March 16, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m., with military honors conducted under the auspices of Cherryland VFW Post 2780 at 4 p.m., and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the REYNOLDS-JONKHOFF FUNERAL HOME in Traverse City, Mich. Services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. The Rev. Dr. William Myers will officiate.
