UP Chief Minister and five-term MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath has conceded defeat saying “the BJP lost the by-election to both the Lok Sabha seats due to the ati atmvishwas (over-confidence)”.
“The defeat is stunning. The party will analyse the reasons of defeat. It appears that the over-confidence may have cost the party the two Lok Sabha seats. The party will review the whole matter so as to improve our performance in 2019 Lok Sabha elections’’, said Yogi on Wednesday.
Also, he said the BJP failed to preempt and prepare for the opportunistic and incompatible marriage of the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party in the by-elections.
“Yeh BSP-SP ka Jo rajnitik saudebaazi, desh ke vikas ko baadhit karne ke liye bani hai, iske baare mein hum apni rann neeti tayaar karenge (This political bargaining between BSP and SP has been made to derail the development of the country.
We will now prepare a strategy to counter them),” he commented on the SP-BSP alliance in this by polls.
On the peoples mandate, the CM said: ``We accept the verdict of the people, this result is unexpected, we will review the shortcomings. I congratulate the winning candidates and I am confident that the winning candidates would make their contribution in the development of the State.”
On the SP -BSP tie up, Yogi said, ``Till the announcement of the candidate the SP, BSP and the Congress were to contest the bypolls for the two Lok Sabha seats separately. The SP -BSP came together for the Rajya Sabha elections but we failed to pre empt the incompatible alliance of the two parties’’, said the CM.
He added, “the SP -BSP alliance won’t go far as people will see through the game of the incompatible alliance’’.
