Gratiot County orgs awarded $85K in grants for projects

The Gratiot County Community Foundation has awarded more than $85,000 in grants in the first of three grant cycles this year.

There were 21 grants distributed, narrowed down by volunteers from a list of comprising $163,000 in requests, according to a news release.

“The investment we are able to make in these quality programs is entirely thanks to the generosity of our donors who believe in making Gratiot County a great place to live and work” said Executive Director Tina Travis.

Grants were awarded from the Carl and Esther Macklin Memorial Fund, McMacken Family Fund, Clyde and Maude Mizer Memorial Fund, Gratiot County Community Fund, Homebound Seniors Fund, Carson Fraker Memorial Fund for Youth and the Youth Endowment.

The grant recipients are as follows:

• Commission on Aging for the Go and Serve Home Repair Project;

• St. Louis, Alma and Ithaca Public Schools for Educational Experiences Outside the Classroom;

• Mid-Michigan District Health Department for the Prescription for Health Project;

• St. Louis First Church of God for Handicap Accessibility to the Free Soup Supper Program;

• City of Alma for the Wright DREAM Park;

• PACE All-Inclusive Elder Care by Presbyterian Village of Michigan Foundation;

• Alma College’s ‘Emoticons’ Dance for the Schools;

• St. Louis Public Schools for a Woodshop for At-Risk Students;

• MidMichigan Health Foundation to launch the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program;

• Village of Breckenridge Park Enrichment Project;

• Youth Service Projects at Ithaca South Elementary, Alma’s Pine Avenue Elementary and St. Louis’s Carrie Knause ECLC; and

• Child Advocacy to expand the Victim Advocacy Program.

Applications for the summer 2018 grant cycle will be accepted until June 1.

For the fall 2018 grant cycle, applications will be accepted until Oct. 1.
