Probe has started into the matter related to the video purportedly showing an inmate of Roshanabad-based district jail, alleging harassment by the jail superintendent which went viral a few days ago. The joint team comprising State administrative officers and officers of Haridwar police are investigating the matter. The team members searched every nook and corner of the jail for over six hours on Wednesday. They have found things were not in the right order in the high-security district jail where many hard-core criminals are being kept. They also recorded statements of the inmates.
It is learnt that the jammers meant to deactivate mobile networks were found defunct and CCTV footages of one week were found missing during the inspection of the jail by the team. The team questioned the prisoner who had made the video and also other jail officials regarding the same. Notably, an inmate Gurvinder Singh had made video last week inside the prison premises and circulated it. It had purportedly shown physical tortures done to the prisoners by the jail officers, particularly the jail superintendent. Singh had purportedly appealed to the CM through the video to take corrective measures, so that such atrocities end and the right environment of the jail is restored. The senior jail officers were shocked over the video being made from inside the prison premises. Taking cognizance of the video which created ripples in the State and district administration, principal secretary Anand Bardhan has ordered a probe to be conducted by a team headed by AIG jail Tulsiram, ADM finance Lalit Narayan Mishra, CMO Ashok Kumar Gairola and SP city Mamta Vohra. Though the team has not yet revealed any finding and declined to comment until the probe is completed--sources privy to the team said the team has found things which point to utter mismanagement by the prison authority. Serious chinks in the security network have been found too during the inspection of the jail by the team, sources said, adding that the detailed report might be submitted to the State Government soon.
