John E. "Jack" Shawger, 88, of New Brighton, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Heritage Valley Beaver. Born April 22, 1929, in Scranton, a son of the late Dwight M. and Katherine (Davis) Shawger, he retired from Zinc Corporation of America in 1992 after 37 years of service. Jack was a member of the Monaca United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post #19, New Brighton, and was an avid lifelong golfer with several area golf leagues. Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Ruth (McMichael) Shawger; one daughter, Jacci Culver, Minot, N.D.; three sons, Randy (Patricia) Shawger, Georgetown; Jeffrey Shawger, Monaca, and Chris (Shari) Shawger, Conway; two stepdaughters, Cathy (Gary) Peebles, Chippewa Twp., and Susan (Jeff) Smith, Darlington; 17 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John, at the age of 9; his first wife, Sally Rose (Basar) Shawger; his second wife, Kathleen (Kraus) Shawger; two brothers and two sisters. Friends will be received Friday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, with the Rev. Emmett Anderson officiating. Private interment will take place in Union Cemetery, Monaca. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made in his name to the Monaca United Methodist Church, 813 Indiana Ave., Monaca, PA 15061.
