DANBURY — The Danbury Education Foundation has awarded more than $10,000 to fund five Classroom Excellence Grants for local teachers’ projects and classroom improvements.
State Sen. Michael McLachlan presented the awards and winning projects before the school board at a recent meeting.
“It was an honor to stand in for Mayor Mark Boughton and present grants so these teachers can implement their creative approaches to educating students,” McLachlan said. “Each grant application the foundation received shows the tremendous commitment Danbury public school teachers have for their students. The quality of proposals submitted made choosing the winners difficult.”
The awards include:
$4,695.99 to Wilson E. Cardenas for “Interactive Foreign Language” at Rogers Park Middle School
$1,500 to Ana Wight for “Avoiding The Summer Slide” at Hayestown Avenue School
$1,500 to Alexandra Hoyt, Michele Masi and Diana Gomez for “Learning About Our Community” at Ellsworth Avenue School
$1,500 to Amy Kotach and Jackie Ziegelmeier for a “Listening Center” at Park Avenue School
$1,487.22 to Jessica Archambault for interactive whiteboards at Morris Street School
