In the film, Alia is playing a Kashmiri woman who is married to an armyman, played by Vicky Kaushal. The thriller is set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pak War of 1971. The film is an adaptation of author Harinder S Sikka's 2008 novel Calling Sehmat. The book shows the protagonist torn between her duty as a nationalist and her familial responsibilities.
Alia has played an array of roles in films after making her debut with Karan Johar's high-school drama Student of the Year. Since her first film, she has worked in critically and commercially acclaimed films like Highway, Dear Zindagi and Badrinath Ki Dulhania among others. Therefore, expectations with Raazi are already soaring high.
Co-produced by Dharma Productions and Junglee Pictures, Raazi hits the theatres on 11 May.
