The ancient Arulmigu Easwaran Temple in Arakazhur village near Attur town will get a new temple car at an outlay of ₹ 35 lakh soon.

The Easwaran Temple was constructed about 900 years ago during the regime of Ponparappina Vaanakovaraiyan. The region was later ruled by Cholas, Pandiyas, Heisalars, Vijayanagara empire, Nayakkar kings.

The annual car festival in this temple used to be a major religious event in the area and attracted a large number of devotees from across the state.

Nayak king Thulukkana Nayakkar constructed a wooden temple car and conducted car festival during Maasi month. Since then, the car festival became a major annual affair.

As the old temple car had worn out and was in an unusable condition, Maasi magam temple car festival was not held for the last 15 years. The local people, with the help of a Chennai based private trust have taken steps for the construction of a new car for the temple at an outlay of ₹ 35 lakh.

The local people have pleaded with the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department for its assistance in the construction of the temple car.

The work on the construction of new temple car commenced on Monday and the car is expected to be ready by next year, temple sources said.
