Why Pep Guardiola would get the best out of Manchester United

MANCHESTER CITY manager Pep Guardiola would be perfectly suited at Old Trafford.

Pep Guardiola has led Manchester City to the top of the Premier League

That’s according to Sky Sports pundit Ian Wright, who believes Manchester United have just as strong a squad as the runaway Premier League leaders.

United were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday after being defeated by Sevilla.

The pressure is mounting on manager Jose Mourinho, with United’s only hope of a trophy this season now the FA Cup.

City, on the other hand, progressed comfortably from Europe’s top domestic competition as they dispatched Basel 5-2 over two legs.

That put Manchester City into the last eight of the Champions League, while they have already won the League Cup.

Jose Mourinho is under increasing pressure as Manchester United boss

Guardiola’s men have the Premier League all but wrapped up too and former Arsenal striker Wright believes Manchester United would have had the same success with the Spaniard at the helm.

Wright told Sky Sports show The Debate: "If you put the two sides up together and playing at their full capacity, that would be some game.

"Because when you look at City's team, they are so collectively on the same wavelength.

“If you look at Man Utd's team, in respect of individuals, I think they are great players and just as good as City's players.

"But they are not a collective, they are not together collectively and if they could put it together in the way they are being coached like Man City, I believe they could be in and around City.

"If they swapped managers, I think United would be doing exactly what City are doing because they have the kind of players that Pep would be able to get a tune out of, without a doubt, because he would not play how Mourinho plays."

Pressure is also mounting on Manchester United players Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez with neither living up to their potential since moving to Old Trafford.

United can move a step closer to a trophy as they host Brighton in the FA Cup on Saturday.
