Sajid Javid reveals 770,000 people living in UK cannot speak English as Government unveils plan to boost community integration

Sajid Javid has vowed to address the “segregation problem” in the nation’s schools as he unveiled plans to boost integration and address the fact that 770,000 people who live in Britain are unable to speak English.

The Government has allocated £50million to fund a package of measures it has outlined in response to the 2016 Casey Review which warned social cohesion cannot be taken for granted in the multicultural UK.

The proposals include requiring schools whose pupils come from a single ethnic or religious community to ensure they mix with children from other backgrounds.

Schools would also be told to teach “British values” while more would be done to encourage people from minority communities...
