Centra Health’s visitor restrictions remain in place because of the ongoing widespread flu outbreak, according to a news release from Centra.
March remains an active month for influenza transmission, and Centra encourages staff, patients and visitors to continue being vigilant in prevention efforts including frequent hand hygiene, covering coughs and receiving the flu vaccine.
In light of the continued widespread flu cases in the area, Centra’s Visitation Restriction policy remains in effect as an added precaution to help prevent flu transmission. Centra will lift the restriction when it is safe to do so, according to the release.
In February, Centra implemented new restrictions to protect people and patients from the flu and other infectious diseases. Facilities affected include Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital and the Summit Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Visitation to patient care areas is restricted to healthy adults 18 years and older.
Centra is asking people who are sick, have a fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, headache and muscle or joint pain not to visit. No more than two people can visit a patient’s room at a time, and children may not be left unattended. Children, the elderly and those with chronic diseases all are at high risk for influenza.
