The mantra of “it’s all in the details” distinctly manifested itself when designers recently gathered to present their plans for the 2018 Dream House.
Each member of the design team discussed and displayed specific elements to be used in the home being built in the new Lakeshore Highlands development of Mentor at a meeting on March 9 at the Lake County YMCA in Painesville.
Contemporary metal artwork created by sculptor Jerry Schmidt of Waterloo 7 Art Gallery in Cleveland will be among highlights of the Great Room designed by Karen Hayes and Carolyn Rigo of Karen Hayes Interiors in Willoughby. Schmidt is donating the decorative piece valued at $6,500. A cantilevered fireplace hearth that will span the width of the room will serve as another focal point.

Kathy Snowbrick of Sheraton Furniture in Willoughby noted that the dining room’s design will consist of a mix of styles including a distressed white farmhouse-type dining table. In keeping with the house’s silver theme symbolizing the project’s 25th anniversary a variety of accent pieces will shine in the designated color tone.
A rug in shades of white, black and gray will sit atop the hardwood flooring which travels throughout the home’s main level. Snowbrick said that one of her favorite
features in the room is a sheer, sparkling fabric topped with diamond-like details to be used for window treatments.
The design for the office/library by Halle Chiappone of Charley’s Loft in Mentor will have a feminine feel based on the fact that many mothers are now working from home. Incorporated in the room will be a built-in bookcase and whitewashed oak desk with chrome legs. A comfortable sofa tucked into an alcove and dressed up with linen print fabric pillows will provide a space to rest.

Relaxation is key for the upstairs master bedroom and bath, according to designer Gregory Mononen of Gregory Todd Interiors in Mentor.
“You start and end every day there. It’s one of the most important rooms of the house,” said Mononen who joined the design team in 2017. “To me, a master suite should be a place to relax and unwind.”
Describing his inspiration as rustic with a modern California vibe, the suite will include a sitting area with a sofa placed near a window and coupled with a leather cocktail ottoman. An upholstered king-sized bed with deep footboard is planned to add a sumptuous look.
Fixtures in the adjoining bath will be a blend of brushed and polished nickel. An oval floating tub illumined by crystal sconces is set to enhance the relaxed mode.
Handling the additional two upstairs bedrooms is Tracy Baker of Design Details in Mentor. Her plans to create a trendy “baby glam” motif include a handcrafted crib by the fashionable Milk Street Baby company. A light silver butterfly wallpaper design and soft “Agreeable Gray” paint color by Sherwin Williams will adorn the walls.
Baker targeted elements in the nearby bedroom to suit a young toddler. A custom daybed built on site will serve as a centerpiece. Also adding interest will be a tree constructed of palm bark which will wind its way up and over the bed.
On the lower level are sitting and guest rooms designed by Karen Koeth of KSA Design in Concord Township. Her plans include a four-poster brushed nickel bed flanked by custom made oval nightstands with a metallic finish. The sitting room will offer a calming, Zen-like theme.
Providing added space in the lower level is a family room emphasizing a tray ceiling with X beams filled with a variety of gray stained wood, according to designer Debra Metcalf of Metcalf Interiors in Concord Township.
The double chaise sectional with a bold, cozy blue fabric anchors the room. Featured behind the sectional will be a unique live edge waterfall sofa table donated by Dan Margagliotti, owner of TheBarMaker in Cleveland.
The Dream House at 5360 Highland Way will open for tours on June 30. For more information, visit www.lakecountyymca.org.
