Volvo XC40 Will be Lara Croft’s Ride in Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider is finally getting the reboot it richly deserves and with one Oscar-winning star in the bag, the studio only had to book an up-and-comer to star alongside her.

Looks like they found a good’un, as Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) will be joined on set by Sweden’s latest compact crossover, the Volvo XC40.

“We’re very excited for the Volvo XC40 to have its film debut with Tomb Raider,” said Bob Jacobs, Volvo’s VP of Marketing, Product and Brand Communication. “One of the things we love about the film is Lara Croft’s character: bold, surprising and always ready for adventure, just like the Volvo XC40.”

Just how much tomb raiding the XC40 will do remains to be seen, though knowing Volvo, its workout regimen has likely been as tough as Vikander’s to make sure it can perform safely.

The XC40 featured in the film will be a white R-Design that you can inspect online because Volvo has made a Lara Croft spec on its configurator (albeit with the steering wheel on the correct side of the car).

Tomb Raider premieres this Friday, March 16.
