The Karimnagar Consumers’ Council has urged the State government to fill up the vacant posts in consumer forums in various districts. It also sought the constitution of consumer protection council at the State level, for protection of consumer rights and disposal of consumer related cases.
Round-table convened
On the eve of World Consumer Rights Day which would be observed on Thursday, the Karimangar Consumers’ Council had convened a round-table conference in Karimnagar town on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Confederation of All Telangana Consumer Organisations (CATCO) honorary president N. Srinivas said that the government should fill up all vacant consumer forums, Lokayuktha and Human Rights commission to protect consumers from being cheated.
CATCO district president R. Chandraprabhakar stressed on the need to strengthen the consumer clubs in schools and colleges to educate students about the importance of the Consumer Protection Act.
Karimnagar Consumers’ Council president K. Ramachandra Reddy and secretary Syed Muzaffar said the adulteration of essential commodities had increased due to non-availability of consumer forums and called upon the officials to intensify the drive against adulteration through task force police officials.
Consumer Rights Day
Karimnagar consumer council leaders M. Gangadhar, Venkat Reddy, Laxman Kumar, T. Ganga Rao, Manohar, R. Venkateshwar Rao, were also present.
The World Consumer Rights Day would be held at Collectorate auditorium in the town on Thursday.
