An all-women initiative of the Postal Department in Andhra Pradesh, Jagruti, has started paying dividend with selected women being able to market various schemes launched by India Post, according to Post Master General B. Radhika Chakravarthy.
As many as 115 enterprising women were selected by the department in the division as rural women feel free to interact with women staff.
Within just 12 days, the women, who conducted the special drive mobilised ₹ 50 lakh as premium under Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI), she told The Hindu here on Tuesday after felicitating the proactive women achievers. They have put in extra effort to convince the rural folks about postal life insurance, she added.
These women were part of a larger group in the State marketing RPLI and other products offered by India Post, said Ms.Chakravarthy.

The concept of ePost office had clicked in rural areas with the postal staff with an average age of 55 years carrying out a variety of transactions by using hand-held devices after initial training, she said. Manual operations had become a thing of the past with the department ushering in a communication revolution, she said.
More and more people were opening savings bank accounts with the Postal department as they can now operate their accounts across the country with ATM cards. Besides mandatory minimum balance required in account was ₹ 50 without cheque book and ₹500 with cheque book facility, said senior superintendent of Post Offices T.A.V. Sarma.
