Constables speak against 'dishonest' IPS officers

The Karnataka State Reserve Police Association, an unregistered and unrecognised body of constables, has written to Chief Secretary K Ratna Prabha, alleging harassment from IPS officers.

In the letter, the association's Mandya unit accused IPS officers of being "dishonest and lacking professional conduct". Senior officers "misuse" their power and "promote casteism", it added.

The letter, sent by speed post on March 12, likened the orderly system to bonded labour and pointed out that it continues to exist in the police force despite being banned by the government.

"Trained men are wasting their service in doing odd jobs at senior officers' houses. This is (a) huge loss to the state exchequer. The work culture is affecting the basic work of upholding the dignity of the police force," reads the letter, a copy of which is with DH.

The letter comes days after R P Sharma, an ADGP, wrote to the government, highlighting how the high-handedness of politicians was demoralising the police force.

Both Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Prabha denied receiving any such letter.
