Of the three bypolls two to Bihar Assembly and one to Lok Sabha in Bihar, it is at Jehanabad Assembly seat that the friends have turned political foes between the Assembly election and bypolls.
The seat was held by the RJD when it contested in alliance with Nitish Kumars JD(U). Now, the JD(U) is in alliance with the BJP and has put up its candidate to take on the RJDs nominee.
Polling was held in Jehanabad Assembly bypoll on March 11. Over 50 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the Jehanabad Assembly bypoll. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of Mundrika Yadav of RJD.
A total of 12 candidates are in contention at Jehanabad seat. The RJD has fielded Mundrika Yadavs son Kumar Krishna Mohan alias Uday Yadav from Jehanabad. The RJD hopes to retain the Assembly seat.
RJDs Krishna Mohan is in direct fight with JD(U) candidate Abhiram Singh, who had won the seat in 2010 when his party was in alliance with the BJP. Eight years down the line, the alliance is back and he led an aggressive campaign reminding people of the constituency of rapid pace of development during NDAs previous tenure.
There is another political force here - Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S) of Jitan Ram Manjhi, the former Bihar chief minister. He recently quit the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and joined the alliance of RJD and Congress. Manjhi hails from neighbouring Gaya districts and wields significant influence in Jehanabad.
