Nagpur: Moved by a minor’s death after his throat was slit by the sharp corner of iron sheets protruding from an inappropriately parked mini-truck, a lawyer has approached the high court for proper investigation into the entire case and punishment for the guilty. In his PIL, petitioner Ayush Sharma has prayed for immediate action against doctors who refused medical aid to the 12-year-old boy, whose life could have been saved.
The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Wednesday issued notices to the commissioner of police, Hudkeshwar police station in-charge, and Dr Susheel Vairagade, who runs Apulki Vairagade Hospital on Manewada Road, asking them to reply within two weeks.
The petitioner, through counsel Avdhesh Kesari, submitted TOI news reports, including that of January 31, which had reported how Piyush Ghode met with an untimely death after his throat was slit with iron sheets kept on a truck parked at a turning near his house at Rajapeth on January 29. He pointed out that two city hospitals refused to provide even first aid to the boy, who was bleeding profusely, which could have saved his life.
Piyush, the only son of his parents, had failed to notice the sharp edged iron sheets projecting out of the truck, when he was taking a turn on his bicycle. An unknown motorcyclist saw the profusely bleeding boy and stopped to help. When no one else came forward, he followed the child’s directions and dropped him home. The child fell unconscious while explaining the incident to his grandmother.
The neighbours rushed him to nearby Vairagade hospital, but Dr Susheel refused to treat him, and referred him to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), but the boy succumbed to injuries midway.
