Jaipur: Three youths accused in gang-rape in Dholpur, stole high-powered expensive bikes from the city and snatched chains from across multiple posh localities, including Jawahar Circle, Shipra Patha, and Jawahar Nagar.
The accused, identified as Banshi, Wakil, and Bhola, are 21-year-old residents of Rajakheda in Dholpur district and were arrested by the special branch of Jaipur police on Wednesday morning.
Deputy commissioner of police (Jaipur East) Kunwar Rastradeep told TOI that the trio were involved in separate gang-rape cases and had recently walked out on bail. “They boarded buses from Rajakheda bus stand to come to the city. They used to roam around area near Jawahar Circle and Jawahar Nagar to steal expensive and high speed bikes. They drove these bikes in areas like Mansarovar, Shastri Nagar, Mahesh Nagar etc to snatch chains,” he said.
The bikes recovered from them ranged from Rs 1 to 1.70 Lakh.
DCP East said that the police had been picked up clues of the suspects and formed as special team which included SI Munshi Lal, Sukhver ASI Guddu, and constables Banwari, Sukhveer Singh.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Malviya Nagar, Kavinder Singh Sagar told TOI that the trio lifted bikes with the sole purpose of snatching chains. “After snatching chains, the gang would abandoned the vehicles and fled back to Dholpur,” Sagar said.
According to ACP Sagar, the primary investigation has revealed the gang’s involvement in as many as 17 cases of
chain snatching, “We have recovered total 11 bikes from them,” he said.
The gang also admitted to have carried out snatchings near leading malls located in Jawahar Circle area of the city.
The sources informed TOI that the gang splurged the money on buying new clothes and expensive gift items.
“All three of them are serious offenders and have been booked in gang rape cases in Dholpur. Banshi was also booked in cases of loot in Uttar Pradesh and Dholpur. They have been out of bail for past six months,” an official told TOI.
Jaipur police said they are interrogating the accused to find their involvement in other cases of loot and criminals activities.
