Wastage of water at Western Cape hospital

14 March 2018, 10:56

I visited the University of Western Cape Dental Hospital yesterday and was amazed to see that not only could I flush with municipal drinking water.

Not only could I flush but I couldn’t stop the flow of water in the toilet as it is an automated unit. It only stopped after flushing down an estimated 30 – 50 liters down the drain.

Since this is a public facility the amounts of water that could be saved, yet is being wasted, must run in the millions of liters. And the incredible thing is that the city and provincial governments are allowing this wastage to continue.

Surely it costs way less to replace the toilet systems with less wasteful units than it is invest in new water augmentation schemes.
I hope this will be read by someone who will take action and stop this wastage of astronomical proportions.
