more-in

In a freak fire, about 200 full-grown plants and small trees on the Mahatma Gandhi University campus were burnt on Tuesday. It is believed to have sparked off after an unidentified man discarded a cigarette butt on the varsity premises.

High temperature is suspected to have aided the fire that spread rapidly to the dry grass and plants till the canteen area. The blaze was put out after a half-hour exercise on the part of fire-fighters.
